Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese traditional medicine involving the insertion of tiny needles into specific points on the body to balance the flow of energy, or qi. It is commonly used to treat pain, but may also be used to treat nausea, fibromyalgia, headaches, or other ailments. Acupuncture follows a theory that qi flows through the body along pathways called meridians, and illness occurs when this flow of energy is blocked or thrown off balance. The goal of acupuncture is to alleviate illness by bringing the flow of qi back into balance.
